A successful diet for dogs aims to reduce the number of calories in the feed, but without saving important nutrients and proteins. Barfen can help with obesity, because you can put together the raw meat feeding individually for your dog's needs. We will tell you here what you should consider. It is important with a dog diet that it should be high in protein but low in calories. This also applies to barking against obesity. If the dog gets too little protein from the food, it not only sheds excess fat, but also muscle mass. The muscle mass is indispensable so that your dog stays healthy and fit and can keep its weight later.

Obesity in dogs - an underestimated problem

With a normal weight dog, you can easily feel the ribs, which are under a layer of fat. If this is not the case, then the fat layer is clearly too thick and your dog is overweight. Special dog breeds such as Labradors, Retrievers or Cocker Spaniels as well as castrated dogs are susceptible to the fact that one or the other fat cushion quickly forms on the ribs.

The consequences of being overweight for the four-legged friends include cardiovascular problems or liver diseases. For this reason, it is particularly important to declare war on the excess kilos. Barfen, a method of dog nutrition that relies on fresh meat feeding, can be one possibility. Before that, however, it means: off to the vet!

Before a dog diet to the vet

It is advisable to visit a veterinarian with your four-legged friend, who ideally specializes in dog nutrition, before starting the dog diet. He can calculate the ideal weight for your dog and determine the amount of food he should be given daily to lose weight healthily.

Anyone who tries this as a layperson can do a lot wrong out of ignorance. This can lead to nutritional deficiency symptoms. It is also possible that the dog regains weight after the diet because he has lost too much muscle. As a result, he consumes fewer calories than a fit, healthy animal.

The veterinarian can advise you on what nutrients your dog needs and how you can give it to him when he is barbefing. The dog diet may be supported with food supplements if raw meat feeding alone does not provide all the vitamins and minerals.

To avoid incorrect dosages, discuss this option with the veterinarian beforehand and adhere exactly to his specifications or his dog's diet plan.

Fight excess weight with barbs

The advantage of barking is that you can better understand what ends up in the dog bowl than with industrially manufactured complete feed. In this way, the dog diet can be individually designed and adjusted to the needs of the four-legged friend.

This makes it easier for you to make sure that your dog gets high-quality proteins from good meat and fresh fish. To do this, however, you really have to keep to the barf specifications of the veterinarian and it is best to keep a feed plan of what your dog eats - including notes on treats, chewing bones and the like.

The carbohydrate intake can be reduced well with barbef. Carbohydrates contain as many calories per gram as proteins, but are not so urgently needed by dogs. It is therefore advisable to reduce the amount of calories in the feed by saving carbohydrates.

In addition to fresh meat and fish, the bass can be diversified with vegetables such as spinach or carrots. If you are overweight, papaya and pineapple are particularly suitable. The fruits contain enzymes that help the animal to absorb the proteins in the feed even better. Flea and flax seeds, on the other hand, provide a better feeling of satiety. Artichoke leaves have a positive effect on the dog's blood fat levels and help with digestive problems.

In addition, do not completely do without fats and oils for the barf - they can be useful for your dog despite being overweight. Ask your veterinarian here which fats and in what amount are good for your dog.

No dog diet without exercise

In addition to dog nutrition, a sufficient movement of the four-legged friend is also important with a diet. Sufficient exercise is important for the dog to lose weight. Long walks, fun game sessions or a visit to a dog school are recommended. The advantage: once the dog is busy, there is no boredom and he is less likely to eat more than it is good for him.
